And you thought winter was over in Tri-Cities? Chance of snow in the forecast
Just when you thought winter was over, there’s a chance of early morning snow forecast for higher elevations of the Tri-Cities.
The early forecast of the National Weather Service puts the chance of rain and snow from 2 to 5 a.m. Saturday at 50 percent, with snow unlikely to accumulate on the ground.
Precipitation is most likely to fall as snow rather than rain at elevations of 700 feet and above, and much of the Tri-Cities is about 400 feet.
Gusty winds also are possible.
It is more certain that temperatures will have a winter chill.
Highs in the low 60s were forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday this week, but the high could drop to 39 degrees Saturday and 38 degrees Sunday.
Lows could fall to 22 degrees Saturday night and 21 degrees Sunday night, according to the early forecast.
Any early growing plants will need to be protected, says the weather service.
Travelers can expect about 7 to 12 inches of snow in the Cascade Mountains and 3 to 6 inches in the Blue Mountains this weekend.
