Snow causing problems on I-90. Will the Tri-Cities get more tonight?

Snow was falling in the Tri-Cities and around the state Tuesday afternoon and the slick stuff was causing problems for drivers on Interstate 90.

Westbound I-90 was closed at 3:45 p.m. because of a jack-knifed semi, after closing earlier in the afternoon because of several spin-outs on slick roads, the Washington State Department of Transportation reported. Snow and slush was on the roadway, WSDOT said.

Snowfall was expected to increase on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass through the night, with eastbound traffic already moving slowly in places mid afternoon. Chains were required for eastbound traffic.

About 10 to 14 inches of new snow is forecast overnight.

In the Tri-Cities residents, may not need to get out their snow shovels, at least at lower elevations.

Any precipitation was forecast to turn to rain after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

More rain is possible in the Tri-Cities Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Gusty winds of up to 29 mph are forecast.
