Caution: Morning rain is freezing in some areas, leaving streets icy in Tri-Cities

Overnight rain left roads, sidewalks and parking lots slick with a thin coating of ice Tuesday morning, sending people and at least one school bus sliding.

The National Weather Service reported a brief bout of freezing rain at the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco starting shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday. That came after a night of mist and freezing fog.

Temperatures were hovering near freezing Tuesday morning after some scattered showers.

But the sun was expected to come out Tuesday afternoon and warm up to about 43.

The school bus slid at 9:05 a.m. near the intersection of Nauvoo Court and Nauvoo Lane, according to dispatch reports.

The bus did not hit anything and the children inside were not injured but they were being checked by medics to be sure.

Police have been telling drivers to pay attention to road conditions and to slow down when it’s slippery.
