Search continues for missing swimmer in Lake Chelan

A Snohomish County man is still missing in Lake Chelan after he went in the water on the Fourth of July, according to authorities.

The 43-year-old man reportedly jumped from a boat into the water to swim. About five minutes later, his friend in the boat could not find him, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said in a news release.

The last known point is approximate, but the depth is 200 feet - too deep for a dive team.

Search crews with the Chelan County sheriff's office and Lake Chelan Fire responded at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and scoured the area with help from citizens for about 2½ hours, but did not find the man.

The search continued Monday. The sheriff's marine patrol and the Douglas County Public Utility District were using a remote underwater vehicle to look for the missing man, while the sheriff's air support unit, using a helicopter, flew overhead to scan shallower waters.
