Seattle forecast: More dry, summery weather with highs near 90
Visitors to Seattle can bask in the warm sun and clear skies once more as the FIFA Men's World Cup carries on in the city this week.
Hotter weather returns Sunday and ramps up Monday, with Seattle-Tacoma International Airport projected to reach 89 degrees by Tuesday. That's shy of last week's record-breaking high temperatures in the 90s ahead of the Belgium-Egypt match at Seattle Stadium, but still plenty hot by Seattle standards.
"We could easily hit 90," said Maddie Kristell, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Puget Sound will be at "moderate heat risk" early next week, Kristell said, which warns against prolonged heat exposure that can pose health risks. South King County may see major heat risk Tuesday, and a moderate heat risk warning will likely extend into Wednesday with the South Sound expected to feel the most heat. Kristell advises residents to stay hydrated and never leave pets or children unsupervised in their vehicles.
Highs will cool to the mid-70s going into Thursday. And soccer fans - whether at the stadium for Wednesday's Qatar-Bosnia and Herzegovina match or at a watch party downtown - can expect clear skies for most of the week. Rain won't visit Seattle until Friday or the weekend, which will see temperatures between the 50s and high 60s.
"If you're someone who's going to partake in any of the outdoor festivities," Kristell said, "just be aware of what the forecast is and make sure that you're hydrated, you've got your sunscreen (and) you have access to shade if you need it."
