Bicyclist killed in West Seattle crash
A woman in her 60s died Monday morning in West Seattle's Fauntleroy neighborhood when she was struck by a box truck, police said.
The bicyclist died at the scene of the crash, which was reported about 8 a.m. near 47th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Wildwood Place, said Seattle Police Department spokesperson Detective Brian Pritchard.
Investigators evaluated the truck driver at the scene and did not see any signs that they were impaired, Pritchard said.
The woman and the box truck were both traveling east on Wildwood shortly before 8 a.m. when she was struck, Pritchard said.
Police are investigating the crash and temporarily closed Wildwood to traffic between 47th and Fauntleroy Way Southwest.
The fatal crash marked the second time this month a bicyclist was struck and killed in Seattle, and the third such crash since December.
A hit-and-run crash on Dec. 14 killed Allie Rodriguez, 38, who was riding her bicycle in the Beacon Hill neighborhood when she was struck by a car. The driver fled, police said.
Christian Salyer, a 30-year-old elementary school teacher, died June 1 after he was struck by a Recology waste collection truck while biking in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood. Police said they evaluated the driver at the scene and are investigating the crash.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly described the direction the truck was traveling in.
