Two teenagers arrested after climbing Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Washington State Patrol troopers arrested two teenage boys Saturday evening at the top of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the patrol was made aware that two people had begun climbing the bridge, according to spokesperson Trooper Kameron Watts. Passersby spotted the climbers, and there are sensorsonthe bridge that pickedthem uptoo,Wattssaid.

Officials closed the bridge for about an hour and40minutes while trooperswentup after the climbers.

When troopers got to the top of the bridge, the subjects that climbed up there were hiding," Watts said. "The arrests were made at the top of the bridge."

"Since there's limited space, it took a minute for everyone to get down, he added.

Those arrested were a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both boys, Watts said. They are expected to face charges of criminal trespassing and obstruction of law enforcement, he said.
