Bothell police shooting injures one at 7-Eleven traffic stop
A Bothell police officer shot a 19-year-old man inside a car early Tuesday after a man pulled over at a 7-Eleven pointed a firearm at the officer, the Snohomish County sheriff's office said.
The officer saw the car make an illegal U-turn on the Bothell-Everett Highway before it pulled into the 7-Eleven in the 20800 block of the highway just after 12:01 a.m., said sheriff's office spokesperson Courtney O'Keefe.
When the officer pulled up behind the car, the male driver got out of the car and ran off, O'Keefe said. That's when a passenger inside the car jumped into the driver's seat.
An unknown passenger then pointed a firearm at the officer, O'Keefe said. The officer then fired multiple shots and the car went into reverse, ramming the officer's vehicle before driving off. The officer was not injured.
About an hour later, a 19-year-old man was dropped off at St. Anne's Hospital in Burien. Police believe the man was shot by the officer in the shooting at the 7-Eleven, O'Keefe said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he is in stable condition.
The car was later found in Burien, O'Keefe said, but the driver is unaccounted for as well as at least one passenger.
It is unknown how many passengers were in the car; which passenger pointed a firearm at the officer; which passenger jumped into the driver's seat; or what the 19-year-old man's role was.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating.
