Hood Canal Bridge closing on weeknights for repairs
The Hood Canal Bridge will close on some weeknights in May as construction crews install new shock absorbers.
The bridge, located on Highway 104, will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on some weekdays for the remainder of the month, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The closures will take place on the following days:
* Monday, May 11, to Thursday, May 14
* Monday, May 18, to Thursday, May 21
* Tuesday, May 26, to Thursday, May 28
The closures are part of a $2.9 million center lock rehabilitation project. The center lock keeps both sides of the bridge together. The fixes will extend the life of the bridge.
The seven-hour night closures allow construction crews to replace a key element of the bridge," according to WSDOT. "During the work crews will replace shock absorbers on the bridge. The shock absorbers are an essential feature of the bridge that help keep both halves of the span connected.
Hood Canal Bridge closures are a headache for drivers, as they cause a 110-mile detour.
