Downtown Seattle assault leaves man in critical condition

A 34-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck in the head repeatedly outside a downtown hotel, according to Seattle police.

The man suffered significant head trauma and was found lying on the ground outside the Renaissance Seattle Hotel on Madison Street, Seattle police said in a news release. He was found by police shortly after midnight on Monday and taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Initial reports suggested the man may have fallen, according to Seattle police, but surveillance footage showed he was struck in an unprovoked attack, according to police. The video showed he was bent over in front of the hotel when someone approached and struck him in the head with an object, knocking him to the ground, according to police. The suspect then repeatedly hit the man before leaving the scene, police said.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Department at 206-233-5000.
