8 new restaurants: Pioneer Square, Sodo, Georgetown and Chinatown ID

We counted more than three dozen new restaurants and cafes in our latest roundup of new Seattle restaurants, so we decided to break the list up geographically.

You've already heard about a dozen new spots on Capitol Hill. Next up: Pioneer Square, the Chinatown International District, Georgetown and Sodo.

The headliner is a famous sushi haunt that tried to sneak a hush-hush, soft reopening in the ID only to find itself slammed anyway. It's hard to keep a secret in this town.

Old-timers will remember Tsukushinbo. That much-loved sushi nook, which closed in 2022 after nearly three decades, returns as Kakurenbo, a two-story bar and restaurant in the historic Japantown section of the Chinatown International District.

Many of its greatest hits are back, including its much-loved yuzu sunagimo chicken gizzards fried with garlic. Expect a long wait if you don't have reservations. More good news: Kakurenbo will soon open a Japanese cocktail den on the ground level that will serve as a waiting area for those who can't get into its 25-seat sushi bar upstairs.

You can also now grab Angolan food in the CID. Next door to Wing Luke Museum on South King Street sits Queen Nzinga, which specializes in grilled turkey tail, mackerel and goat along with comfort dishes like tripe stew and slow-cooked chicken gizzards.

Nearby, the DIY hot-pot to-go spot Chengduer Takeout Shop has debuted around the corner from its anchor restaurant, Chengdu Memory.

And Le Grey Tea Co. is also open now in the ID.

In Pioneer Square, Gordo Steak is open now on Occidental Avenue South. One of our most anticipated restaurant openings of 2026, this Mexican steakhouse comes from David Orozco, who runs the popular Asadero Ballard. While that haunt focuses more on Sonoran-style mesquite-grilled meat, Gordo Steak showcases various cuts of steaks and marinades from different regions of Mexico.

Hey, bargain-hunters: Instead of the rib-eye or New York strip, order some less sexy cuts like a flap steak or a top sirloin cap. Those 14-ounce cuts come with a side salad and unlimited corn tortillas made to order ($40), which is enough to feed two. Or you can get a pound of chopped-up steak with unlimited corn tortillas for $30.

(Elsewhere on the steak taco trail, the popular Auburn restaurant Sonora Carne Asada House is expected to expand to Hillman City by the end of May - and Tacos Cometa is open now for late-night bites on Capitol Hill.)

About three blocks north of Gordo Steak, the local Detroit-inspired pizza chain MOTO expands next to the Smith Tower.

(On the same block, the Irish pub Shawn O'Donnell's has reopened after a monthlong remodel.)

In Georgetown, neighbors have lined up early and often since the start of last month to support the return of I Luv Teriyaki, a teriyaki joint that burned down in March 2023.

And finally, in Sodo, the Korean fusion counter Gangnam Burger debuts near Costco on Fourth Avenue.
