Seattle weather: First 80-degree day of year, clear skies this weekend

Would it be naive to say we can get used to warm, sunny weekends in Seattle at this point?

This weekend will be our third in a row characterized by short-sleeve-level temperatures and clear blue skies to disperse any thoughts of rain. And we're looking at our warmest temperatures of the year yet on Sunday.

Now, it's up to you to decide if that's a good thing, what with the state entering its fourth severe drought in a row this year, but you can expect to see Seattleites anywhere outside, soaking up the sun like sea lions on a dock.

The warm temperatures will peak on Sunday.

Thursday will bring highs around 70 with skies on the sunny side before Friday puts us on a momentary pause, bringing in some clouds and highs a degree or two cooler, said National Weather Service meteorologist Maddie Kristell.

Saturday will warm back up as the clouds recede, ushering temperatures back into the low 70s, Kristell said.

Then it arrives, our warmest day this year. Sunday could crank temperatures up to 80 degrees in Seattle and even up to the mid- to upper 80s east of Seattle.

The skies will be clear, so there's nothing between you and that hot, hot sun. Well, hopefully some sunscreen.

So break out that picnic basket, find a spot on the beach, in the park, at an outdoor restaurant and watch other excited Seattleites do the same.

But if you're thinking of jumping into the lake, Sound or rivers to cool off, remember that even though the air is hot, the waters are not, Kristell said. They haven't had time to warm up yet, so practice some cold water safety if you're going in.
