Man sentenced in 2025 Seattle waterfront shooting
A man who shot another man in a wheelchair on Seattle's waterfront last summer was sentenced Friday to 42 months in prison, according to King County prosecutors.
The victim, Harrold Powell, who uses a wheelchair, was busking between the aquarium and the ferry terminal. Gregory Timm, who was 32 at the time, approached and accused Powell of stolen valor, demanded to see his ID and took his military insignia, King County prosecutors wrote in court records. Powell displayed a large knife and reached down for a realistic-looking airsoft gun, and Timm simultaneously drew a real gun and shot him in the chest at close range, according to prosecutors.
Powell, who was 68 at the time, survived the incident and attended Friday's sentencing hearing.
Timm was convicted by a jury of second-degree assault, with a firearm enhancement for the shooting and third-degree theft of the victim's military patch. He faced a sentencing range of 39 to 45 months. Prosecutors sought a 42-month sentence, which is what King County Superior Court Judge Karen Donohue imposed after hearing from both sides.
