Update: Palisades brush fire contained

A brush fire that was reported Friday afternoon near Palisades burned 3 acres before it was contained, fire officials say.

The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at 1:05 p.m. near the intersection of Nelson Siding Road and Highway 28, according to Deputy Chief Andy Davidson.

An hour after the fire began, crews gained control of the fire and contained it. It's currently in the mop up phase, Davidson said in an interview around 2:15 p.m. Crews are expected to be there another hour to mop up.

A fire department helicopter was also used for a fuel cycle.

Davidson said the fire is believed to be human-caused, and reminded residents to be cautious when working outside.

"Even though we're early in the fire season, any kind of hot work you do, any welding, or tree cutting, or grinding metal, anything like that, even hot exhaust pipes on gasoline powered vehicles can cause the brush to catch on fire," he said.

No structures were damaged and there were no reports of injuries.

Another fire was reported an hour later around 2 p.m. at the intersection of South Nile Avenue and Highway 28 between Rock Island and East Wenatchee, that burned about 2,000 square feet, according to Davidson.

The fire was quickly contained and put out by the fire department.
