Man killed in Mount Vernon shooting
MOUNT VERNON - A 23-year-old man was killed Thursday in a shooting in Mount Vernon.
According to a Mount Vernon Police Department news release, police were called to the 1300 block of Second Street at about 4:30 p.m. to a report of gunshots.
When they arrived, they found the man struck by gunfire. Despite efforts by officers and Mount Vernon paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the shooting came during an altercation between two groups, and that several shots were fired.
One man was arrested at the scene and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on a misdemeanor citation for obstructing a law enforcement officer.
The man allegedly crossed the crime scene tape, said Mount Vernon Lt. Mike Moore.
Moore said the man is not a suspect in the shooting.
According to the release, the investigation is ongoing.
