Police arrest 13-year-old in Wenatchee homicide

Police arrested a 13-year-old Friday in connection with the death of 42-year-old Cassondra Marie Andrews-Huff, whose body was found on the back porch of a South Wenatchee business May 30.

The Wenatchee Police Department arrested the boy after finding weapons and other items, including a notebook, on his person and at his homes in Wenatchee and Malaga that police say match the video footage obtained in the course of the investigation. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Chelan County Juvenile Court Tuesday.

An autopsy confirmed that the woman was killed by "multiple stab/puncture wounds," according to the affidavit. She was identified Tuesday afternoon by police as Andrews-Huff of Wenatchee.

Police say that the boy's father knew he had gone on a bike ride Friday. Police say surveillance footage saw a person matching the boy's description at the scene of the crime around midnight.

The boy was arrested at the Wenatchee Public Library without incident after a police officer saw him walking on Friday in the area of Orondo Avenue and Washington Street.

When police approached the boy, he was sitting at one of the library's public computers and was "researching the recent homicide," according to the affidavit.

Police recovered a note folded in the boy's pocket that allegedly read "I killed a woman by the tracks and Set all the fires" and was signed "the shadow killer." A notebook recovered by police included a list of items that police later recovered as evidence - including gloves and a knife - and a page in the notebook reads "2026 May 30 12:15 a.m. homeless women By the tracks stabbed repeatedly."

Police said that the weapons, clothing and weapons found will be submitted to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab for further analysis.

Police also recovered a "side bag" that contained "fire starting material," according to the affidavit. Police said they are investigating the matter further but said they believe, based on the letter found in the boy's pocket, that he may be responsible for "the recent large-scale fires in Wenatchee and toward Malaga."

The boy appeared in Chelan County Juvenile Court Monday where a judge set his bail at $1 million, according to Cory Stephens, the juvenile court administrator.

Chelan County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Valaas said the case is currently in juvenile court and the prosecutor's office has not decided whether to try him as an adult.
