Sedro-Woolley School Board names Greenwood district superintendent

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Sedro-Woolley School Board appointed Brett Greenwood as school district superintendent Monday.

Greenwood, the district's assistant superintendent of business and operations, had been set to become interim superintendent on July 1, and serve through the 2026-27 school year while the School Board conducted a search for a permanent superintendent.

Instead, the board unanimously approved a three-year contract for Greenwood.

School Board President Eric Johnson said the search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates helped with identifying Greenwood as the best fit for the district.

"Through that process, it became clear that Greenwood possesses the leadership, experience and commitment to the community that our district needs," Johnson said in a news release. "This decision allows us to maintain continuity, provide stability for our students and staff, and continue moving forward on the important work already underway."

Johnson said Greenwood has shown a commitment to transparency, collaboration and service, and that his leadership style, district knowledge and community relationships make him qualified to keep leading the district.

Greenwood brings about 20 years of educational leadership experience to the role.

He has served in the district for about 14 years in leadership positions, overseeing business, operations, technology, transportation, facilities, safety and support services.

In 2024, Greenwood left the district to serve as executive director of the Port of Anacortes for one year before returning to the district.

Greenwood has held leadership roles in the Bellingham School District, served in the Coast Guard and has a master's degree in organizational and business leadership from Gonzaga University.

"I'm incredibly thankful to the board for their trust and support," Greenwood said in the release. "Sedro-Woolley is a special community with incredible staff, supportive families, and outstanding students. I look forward to continuing the important work ahead as we focus on student achievement, transparent communication, strong relationships, and serving every student and family with care and respect."

Greenwood's contract begins July 1.

Brian Isakson will continue to serve as interim superintendent until then.
