WordFest to feature Long Beach, Longview writers

Two Long Beach writers and a Longview novelist plan to share their pieces at a monthly gathering called WordFest from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1428 22nd Ave. in Longview.

An open mic will follow the presentations, where people can read for 10 minutes at the free, public event, according to an event press release.

The writers

Jane Bono will read from her 19th book, "Two Cozies for Christmas," originally written as Hallmark-type Christmas movie scripts, featuring a comical sleuth who tries to figure out who left the photo of a bare-chested man with her gifts from the staff party.

Bono, of Long Beach, is also the author of the Sylvia Avery mystery series and writes a regular column for the Chinook Observer in Long Beach, according to an event press release.

Peter Adams Young will read "Another Death at Gettysburg," the second in his Contemporary Battlefield Mystery series, featuring modern-day whodunits in and around historic Civil War battlefields. During a reenactment of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, a participant is shot and killed with live ammunition. An investigation begins.

Young, also of Long Beach, is currently writing a new mystery set at the Manassas battlefield, while editing the memoirs of a cousin who served in the 6th US Cavalry fighting the Confederacy. Learn more at www.shoalwaterpress.com

Dawn Shipman is a Longview author who spent many years writing for inspirational and equestrian magazines before turning to novel writing. The first book in her Young Adult Fantasy trilogy, "The Lost Stones of Argonia," came out in 2021. She's currently working on the prequel.

Shipman will read her story, "A World that Was," about the disaster in an ancient world that led to the founding of Argonia, from "Hidden World: A Lower Columbia County Writer's Anthology."
