Capt. Branden McNew, of the Longview Police Department, told The Daily News that the body was found in the water, along the shoreline on Nichols Boulevard near the Louisiana Street bridge.

Police were dispatched at about 2:42 p.m. on May 28, and they arrived minutes later.

McNew said that even though the original dispatch was for a reported drowning, investigators are not prepared at this time to characterize the investigation as a drowning, but as a body found in the lake.

The body was sent to the Cowlitz County Coroner's Office, which is working alongside the Longview police to identify the remains and will determine the cause and manner of death.

"Once the ID is determined and confirmed, LPD expects to release additional information about the investigation. It is difficult to say when that ID will be confirmed," said McNew in an email.
