Friends of the Centralia and Chehalis Timberland libraries celebrate successful Library Love Gala
The Friends of the Centralia and Chehalis Timberland libraries have announced the success of the inaugural Library Love Gala, held May 16 at the historic Chehalis Theater.
The event raised more than $13,000, with proceeds being split evenly to support library programming, resources and community enrichment efforts in both Twin Cities libraries, according to a news release from the Friends of the Libraries.
The evening brought together library supporters, local businesses, civic leaders and community members in celebration of the essential role libraries play throughout Lewis County. Guests enjoyed live entertainment from BandX Seattle, a silent auction featuring donations from dozens of local businesses and individuals, and an enthusiastic dessert dash that highlighted local bakers.
Additionally, the Friends awarded the first ever honorary "Best Friend Award" to the Chehalis Theater in gratitude for its generosity in hosting and catering the event, as well as contributing several items to the silent auction, the news release stated. Owners Tim Filer and Patrick McNally accepted the trophy on stage during the gala.
"This event was a powerful reminder that our communities deeply value and believe in our public libraries," Hallie Ralls, president of the Centralia Friends group, said in the release. "At a time when Timberland Regional Library is facing a district-wide budget shortfall of nearly $4 million, community support matters more than ever. While these challenges are significant, the Library Love Gala demonstrated that people across Lewis County remain committed to ensuring our libraries continue to thrive as welcoming centers for literacy, learning, culture and connection."
Funds raised through the gala will directly support local library programs, materials, community events and other enhancements that benefit patrons in Centralia and Chehalis.
The friends groups also emphasized that the success of the event reflects the strong partnerships that exist between libraries and the communities they serve.
"Our libraries are more than buildings filled with books," Ralls continued. "They are gathering places, educational resources, safe spaces and community anchors. Seeing so many people come together in support of that mission was truly inspiring."
Both friends organizations hope to continue building on the momentum of this year's gala and are already exploring opportunities for future collaborative community events.
