Dirt biker rescued from Devils Gulch

A dirt biker was rescued Saturday from the Devils Gulch Trail by Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue after he suffered injuries to his leg

Eighteen volunteers responded after receiving a request for assistance involving a rider who suffered a serious lower-leg injury, according to a news release from the search and rescue team.

Ground teams, off-road vehicle personnel, communications staff and rescue equipment were deployed to the trail, located in the South end of Cashmere, where crews traveled about four miles to reach the injured rider.

After assessing the patient's condition, rescuers placed the rider in a litter and evacuated them over rugged terrain that included rocky trail sections, creek crossings, exposed roots and steep drop-offs, the release said.

Search and rescue personnel established a communications relay during the operation due to limited radio coverage in the canyon.

The rider was transported to the trailhead and transferred to waiting medical personnel. No injuries were reported among rescue personnel.

"I am proud of our volunteers and the way they worked together on this mission," said CCVSAR President Gary Hymer in the news release. "From communications and logistics to the litter carry itself, everyone stepped up and helped bring this mission to a safe and successful conclusion."
