Man injured, residents displaced in fire at Salmon Creek adult family home

One man suffered injuries that first responders said were not life-threatening in a two-alarm fire Sunday at an adult family care home in Salmon Creek.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded at 11:08 a.m. to a house fire at 12801 N.E. Fourth Ave. Clark County Fire District 6 crews arrived within four minutes to find flames coming from the back of the two-story home, according to a Vancouver Fire news release.

Crews searching the home found an immobile man and carried him out of the home, the news release states. Medical personnel administered first aid to him before he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.

The fire had spread to the attic, so a second alarm was called, bringing additional fire crews and equipment to the scene. It took roughly 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

The news release said about 35 firefighters worked at the scene together, which included firefighters from Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue.

Fire District 6 Battalion Chief Chris Bottomley said in an email that the home had "recently undergone renovation to be licensed as an adult family care home, however, it had not yet begun operating in that capacity at the time of the fire."

The fire displaced three adults. Vancouver Fire spokesperson Bryan Fredrickson said the Red Cross assisted the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal's Office.
