"I am deeply saddened by the recent industrial tragedy that occurred at the Nippon Dynawave facility," Ferguson said in a statement.
Flags are to be lowered at half-staff starting on Sunday and remain lowered until the following Sunday. They can be lowered at the close of business on Friday and raised first thing Monday, June 8, if needed.
As of Friday, eight workers were confirmed dead, and three remained missing but were feared dead after an estimated 500,000 gallons of a caustic chemical known as white liquor spilled from the damaged tank. Seven workers and one firefighter were injured.
