3-vehicle crash at Highway 2 intersection leaves 1 dead

One person was killed in a three-vehicle collision near Leavenworth Saturday. It happened at the intersection of Highway 2 and State Route 207.

A blue 2025 Honda CR-V driven by Yogesh Aggarwal, 42, of Beaverton, Oregon, was traveling eastbound on Highway 2 approaching State Route 207 when it attempted to turn onto SR 207 and failed to yield to a silver 2019 GMC Sierra driven by Joseph A. Cannata, 60, of Leavenworth traveling westbound on Highway 2, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.

The GMC struck the Honda, and both vehicles then collided with a blue 2006 Honda Pilot driven by Mary J. Pankievich, 40, of Selah, that was stopped at the intersection.

Aggarwal was injured and transported to Confluence Health Hospital. His passenger, Monu Rekhi, 43, of Beaverton, Oregon, died at the scene, according to WSP.

Cannata was not injured. Pankievich was injured, and two juvenile passengers in the Honda Pilot were not injured.

All three vehicles were totaled in the collision.

According to WSP, all occupants involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts except for Aggarwal. Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.
