Saturday's Prep Roundup: Mount Vernon falls in state baseball tournament
MOUNT VERNON - The Mount Vernon High School baseball team saw its impressive season come to an end Saturday.
The Bulldogs had their 21-game win streak snapped in a 2-0 loss to Eastlake Catholic in a Class 3A State Tournament game.
Mount Vernon, the defending Class 3A state champion and No. 1 seed in the 20-team tournament, allowed the 17th-seeded Crusaders two unearned runs.
The game marked the first time Mount Vernon was shut out since a 3-0 loss to Anacortes on April 3, 2025.
The Bulldogs finish their season 22-2.
Eastside Catholic scored its runs in the third and fifth innings.
It won the game despite being outhit by Mount Vernon 5-3.
Bode Webb had two of the Bulldogs' hits.
Mount Vernon pitcher Connor Swanson allowed three hits over six innings, striking out three and walking two.
Toutle Lake Fighting Ducks 12,
Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes 2
YAKIMA - The Hurricanes fell to the Fighting Ducks in a first-round game of the Class 2B State Tournament.
Mount Vernon Christian's Connor Mounts was 2-for-2, Jake Feddema 1-for-2, and Josh Feddema 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Mount Vernon Christian finishes its season 19-3.

Burlington-Edison Tigers 5
SELAH - The Tigers fell to the Trojans in a loser-out game of the Class 2A State Tournament.
Burlington-Edison, playing in its first state tournament in 16 years, finished the tournament in a tie for seventh place.
It was the fourth top-eight state tournament finish in the program's history.
The Tigers' Katelyn Billings went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, Stella Kowalski 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Peyton Locke 2-for-3.
"This game we struggled on defense," Burlington-Edison coach Jessica Fleury said. "But the girls gave it there all and left it all on the field."
Burlington-Edison wraps up its season 19-6.
Boys' Soccer
Gig Harbor Tides 2,
Mount Vernon Bulldogs 0
GIG HARBOR - The Bulldogs fell to the Tides in a quarterfinal-round match of the Class 3A State Tournament.
Gig Harbor scored its two goals in the final 16 minutes.
"We end this season knowing we belong at this level," Mount Vernon coach Behr Ibarra said. "The boys competed like warriors and represented our community with character and pride."
Mount Vernon finishes the season 16-3-1.
"I tip my hat to our seniors - Elijah Natekin, Carlos Ramirez, Lucas Melnik, Yuri Gross and Angel Reyes," Ibarra said. "Their leadership, commitment and example will be deeply missed."
Boys' Tennis
Class 2A State Tournament
SEATTLE - The Anacortes doubles team of Colton Hong and Adam Van Egdom finished as state runner-up.
The pair won its semifinal-round match 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, then lost in the title match 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5.
"Colton and Adam are the best of us and they are both graduating seniors and they will be sorely missed," Anacortes coach Bryan Benson said.
