Sedro-Woolley High School softball team finishes as runner-up in Class 3A State Tournament
LACEY - The Sedro-Woolley High School softball team fell to Mount Spokane 7-5 on Saturday in the championship game of the Class 3A State Tournament.
The Cubs were seeded No. 1 in the 20-team tournament, while Mount Spokane was No. 2.
The loss snapped the Cubs' 21-game win streak, and a streak of eight consecutive games without allowing a run.
They finish the season 24-3.
The Cubs and Rough Riders were tied 5-5 when Mount Spokane scored two sixth-inning runs on a home run.
Sedro-Woolley was held to six hits - four singles, and home runs by Kasandra Gonzalez and Veanna Lanphere.
Lanphere was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI, and Gonzalez 1-for-2 with two walks, one run scored and one RBI.
As the Cubs' pitcher, Gonzalez allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks in seven innings. She struck out eight.
Sedro-Woolley committed three errors.
The Cubs were making their third title game appearance. They won titles in 2010 and 2024.

LACEY - The Cubs beat the Rough Riders in a semifinal-round game Saturday of the Class 3A State Tournament.
Sedro-Woolley pitcher Kasandra Gonzalez threw a no-hitter in the six-inning game, allowing one walk and striking out 11.
At the plate, Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with two RBI; Reagan Evans was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBI; McKenna Edwards 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI; and McKenna Lewellen 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Sedro-Woolley led 2-0 before scoring seven runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth.
