Saturday's Prep Roundup: Mount Vernon wins district baseball title
EVERETT - The Mount Vernon High School baseball team beat Snohomish 7-4 on Saturday in the championship game of the Northwest 3A District Tournament.
The Bulldogs, 22-1 and winners of 21 consecutive games, begin the 20-team Class 3A State Tournament on May 23.
Top-seeded Mount Vernon will host either 16th-seeded Kelso or 17th-seeded Eastside Catholic at 1 p.m. May 23. Kelso and Eastside Catholic play on Tuesday.
Against Snohomish, Mount Vernon's Baird Brewer was 3-for-3 with a double.
Tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bulldogs took control on a two-run double by Kaiden Anderson, a run-scoring single by Gunnar Rindal, and a run-scoring sacrifice bunt by Brady Peterson.
Anderson was 2-for-2 with three RBI, and Brady Collins 2-for-4.
As the Bulldogs' starting pitcher, Rindal allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two.
Connor Swanson appeared in relief.
Mount Vernon, the defending Class 3A state champion, is No. 1 in Class 3A state RPI.

ANACORTES - The Seahawks fell to the Huskies in a matchup of third-place finishers from the Northwest and Central Washington district tournaments.
Othello moves onto the Class 2A State Tournament, while Anacortes finishes its season 17-8.

Bi-District 2B Championships
COUPEVILLE - Mount Vernon Christian won team titles in the six-team meet.
The Hurricanes finished ahead of runner-up La Conner in the girls' meet and tied Coupeville in the boys' meet.
Mount Vernon Christian's Jaxon Silver and Noah Vander Kooy each won two events.
Silver won the boys' 200-meter dash in 23.20 seconds and the 400 in 51.94, and Vander Kooy the boys' triple jump (41 feet, 1/2 inch) and pole vault (9-6).
The Hurricanes also had champions in Logan Mounts in the boys' 300 hurdles (43.79), Seth Russell in the boys' long jump (21-1 1/2), Faith Borgman in the girls' long jump (15-10 1/4) and Grace Mounts in the girls' triple jump (31-4 3/4).
Mount Vernon Christian won the boys' 400 relay (44.29) and the girls' 1,600 relay (4:14.55).
La Conner's Faith Jenkins and Nora McCormick each won two girls' titles.
Jenkins was first in the 100 (12.77) and 200 (25.58), and McCormick first in the 100 hurdles (15.93) and 300 hurdles (48.52).
La Conner's Maeve McCormick won the girls' pole vault (10-0) and Reese Bird the girls' discus (98-0).
La Conner won the girls' 400 relay (50.75) and 800 relay (1:47.38).
La Conner's Flint Huizenga won the boys' javelin (168-1) and shot put (43-4 1/4).
The top two in each event advance to the Class 2B State Championships on May 28-30 at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.
Northwest 1B District Championships
COUPEVILLE - Concrete had two runners-up in the eight-team meet.
Zack Richter was runner-up in the boys' 200 (25.37) and Kendehl Edwards runner-up in the girls' shot put (25-10 1/2).
The top four in each event advance to the Quad-District 1B Championships on May 21 at Bremerton High School.
