Saturday's SVC Roundup: Baseball team splits doubleheader with Douglas

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. - The Skagit Valley College baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday against Douglas, winning 4-1 and losing 5-4.

In their win, the Cardinals gave up a run in the first inning, then held the Royals scoreless.

Skagit Valley's River Langstraat went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Tim Cook 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Cardinals pitcher Gavin Harrington allowed one run on two hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

In their loss, the Cardinals gave up a run in the bottom of the eight inning as Douglas snapped a 4-4 tie.

Skagit Valley was held to six hits.

The Cardinals conclude their season 10-20 in Western Athletic Conference North Region play and 11-34 overall.

MOUNT VERNON - The Cardinals dropped a Northwest Athletic Conference North Region doubleheader to the Dolphins.

In the seven-inning first game, the Cardinals' Melanie Anderson was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, and Kaelin Blakely 4-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI.

In the five-inning second game, Skagit Valley's Lola Wylie was 2-for-3 and Mallory Butenschoen 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and four RBI.

The Cardinals conclude their season 6-22 in North Region play and 6-26 overall.
