Saturday's Prep Roundup: Mount Vernon falls in boys' soccer playoffs
MOUNT VERNON - The Mount Vernon High School boys' soccer team fell to Edmonds-Woodway 1-0 on Saturday in a quarterfinal-round match of the Northwest 3A District Tournament.
The loss snapped the Bulldogs' 11-match unbeaten streak.
"We played a great game today," Mount Vernon coach Behr Ibarra said. "Unfortunately, the only stat we lost was the score line. In every phase of the game, we dominated. Our boys worked so hard, but we simply lacked the last bit of quality in front of the goal."
Mount Vernon (13-2-1) will host Everett at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a tournament loser-out match.

ANACORTES - The Tigers' season came to an end in a loser-out match of the Northwest 2A District Tournament.
Burlington-Edison tied the match 1-1 with about 10 minutes to play on a goal by Ryland Lockwood.
The Wildcats scored the go-ahead goal a few minutes later.
"Today I was impressed by our team's ability to overcome adversity," Burlington-Edison coach Ryan Kuttel said. "We lost multiple starters due to season-ending injuries throughout the season and even with that, this team never gave up. They continued to battle until the very last minute of the last game of our season. I am grateful for a team that does that."
The Tigers finish their season 6-9-3.

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 14,
Marysville-Getchell Chargers 3
MOUNT VERNON - The Bulldogs beat the Chargers in a quarterfinal-round game of the Northwest 3A District Tournament.
Mount Vernon's Reece Roberts was 3-for-3 with a home run and a double, Baird Brewer also had three hits, and Brady Collins went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
The Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, then added three runs in the third.
Gunnar Rindall and Connor Swanson pitched for Mount Vernon.
Swanson allowed one hit and no walks in 1 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out two.
The Bulldogs, 20-1 and seeded No. 1 in the district tournament, face Monroe at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Mount Vernon has won 19 consecutive games. It is No. 1 in Class 3A state RPI.

ANACORTES - The Seahawks fell to the Lions in a semifinal-round game of the Northwest 2A District Tournament.
Anacortes (15-7) faces Burlington-Edison at 6 p.m. Monday in a tournament loser-out game.

ANACORTES - The Tigers kept their season alive with a win in a loser-out game of the Northwest 2A District Tournament.
Burlington-Edison scored three runs in the fourth inning, then scored five in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
Asher Moe was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Isaiah Aguilar 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Hudson Baker 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Zak Fleshman 2-for-3 with an RBI.
On the mound, Moe allowed one run on four hits and two walks in six innings, while Ethan Schmitz pitched a hitless seventh.
Burlington-Edison (17-5) will face Anacortes at 6 p.m. Monday in a tournament loser-out game.
Girls' Tennis
Northwest 2A District Tournament
BELLINGHAM - Two Skagit County doubles teams remain alive in the tournament.
Burlington-Edison's Hazel Cosgrove and Macy Hendrickson lost 6-0, 6-0 in a tournament quarterfinal, then won a loser out-match 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Anacortes' Carter Bowman and Claire Dekker lost their quarterfinal 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, then won a loser-out match 6-2, 6-2.
"Hazel and Macy were our No. 11 doubles team all season and showed why today. We're really proud of them," Burlington-Edison coach Chris Cammock said.
Both teams will continue in the tournament on Monday.
