Chehalis woman charged for allegedly strangling boyfriend
May 8-A Chehalis woman faces allegations she assaulted her boyfriend by grabbing his throat during an argument.
Brittany M. Hipp, 42, is charged with one count of second-degree assault, domestic violence. She faces up to 10 years in prison for the Class B strike offense.
Hipp made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday.
During the hearing, Judge J. Andrew Toynbee released Hipp on a $10,000 unsecured bond and granted the prosecution's request for a no-contact order on behalf of the alleged victim, along with an order for Hipp to surrender any dangerous weapons within her possession.
Toynbee reserved judgement on the defense's request for a civil standby, saying Hipp needed "a little time for cooling off, so to speak."
A civil standby, if ordered, would have allowed Hipp to obtain all her necessary items from the residence, while in the presence of law enforcement.
According to court documents, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office responded to the reported assault on Tuesday and discovered the victim's "neck was red and his shirt was ripped."
The victim described being unable to breathe when the defendant allegedly grabbed his throat.
Hipp has no prior warrants or criminal convictions, according to court documents.
She is scheduled for an arraignment on May 14.
