Judge dismisses Washougal woman's lawsuit alleging PeaceHealth negligent in death of husband
May 6-A Clark County Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by a Washougal woman against PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver that alleged medical negligence at the hospital led to her husband's death.
Judge Camara Banfield dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice April 14, meaning the plaintiff cannot refile the same lawsuit or claim again.
Stephanie Boydell filed the wrongful death lawsuit Sept. 18 in Superior Court. It alleged PeaceHealth failed to provide reasonable care and treatment to her husband, Logan Boydell, which directly led to his death Sept. 22, 2022.
PeaceHealth spokesperson Jim Murez said the lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed and the organization is assessing how it can further enhance the delivery of safe healthcare.
"As a community of caregivers devoted to the ministry of healing, we remain deeply saddened by the loss of Logan Boydell and reiterate our heartfelt sympathy to the Boydell family and everyone whose lives were touched by him," Murez said. "We take the family's concerns seriously and have incorporated these into our continuous quality improvement program."
Stephanie Boydell said Wednesday she's hopeful she can continue conversations with PeaceHealth.
Logan Boydell was seen at PeaceHealth's emergency department by Lloyd Stambaugh, Yuxuan Wang and Raymond Lee, all doctors at PeaceHealth, for abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and pain in his back, according to the lawsuit.
Court records state he was admitted for observation and given a cocktail of medications to treat gastrointestinal symptoms.
A day later, Logan Boydell was discharged with instructions for follow-up care with his primary care provider. But he began to feel sick again that evening.
The next morning, Stephanie Boydell found her husband dead on the floor of their walk-in closet, court records state.
The lawsuit alleged that PeaceHealth and Stambaugh, Wang and Lee failed to identify a ruptured aortic aneurysm and bleeding around the heart, Logan Boydell's cause of death.
