A heat advisory is also in effect for Southwest Washington from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. that day.
The advisory says highs in Cowlitz and Clark counties, as well as the Portland metro area, could reach up to 90 degrees.
There is a 5% chance that highs could reach 95 degrees or higher in urban areas around the Portland Metro area.
However, the Sunday high in Longview-Kelso is expected to be 87.
National Weather Service Meteorologist David Bishop said temperatures in the high 80s are not completely atypical for this time of year in Southwest Washington.
National Weather Service data shows the highest temperature in Longview in May was 99 degrees in 2001.
In 2025, it was 85. In 2024, it was 90.
Previously, The Daily News used data from a volunteer-run cooperative weather station and reported on the Western Regional Climate Center website, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which also oversees the National Weather Service.
However, Bishop said the site of that weather station, east of Rose Valley and Pigeon Springs, is at such a high elevation that the temperatures are likely not consistent with those in Longview-Kelso proper.
That site reports the highest average maximum temperature in May was in 2023 at 75 degrees.
Bishop also suggested locals prepare for the heat by staying hydrated.
"If you can, stay inside during the hottest part of the day," he added.
Those without air conditioning could try to stay cool by visiting the mall or the movies.
The air-conditioned Longview and Kelso libraries won't be open on Sunday. Although a Friends of the Library book sale will be held on Sunday at the Longview library, the entire building will not be open, staff reports.
Bishop also advises people to ensure their pets have plenty of water.
"Keep an eye on your two-legged friends, and 2-winged friends," he said.
