Bluetooth speaker caused Link Transit bus fire

A malfunctioning Bluetooth speaker sparked a fire on a Link Transit bus Thursday afternoon, according to Link Transit.

The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department responded to a call of a Link bus on fire at around 4:22 p.m. at the 300 block of Rock Island Road. When crews arrived, they discovered the front of the bus completely engulfed in flames.

Link Transit said in a news release Friday morning that they determined through video footage that the fire was caused by a malfunctioning Bluetooth speaker.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and prevented it from spreading to the nearby Norco facility and an adjacent break room.

Crews contained the blaze to the bus, which sustained significant damage, according to Chief Brian Brett Thursday.

No injuries were reported. Brett said the driver was outside the bus on break when the fire started, and no passengers were on board.

"We're continuing to evaluate our safety protocols and procedures. Safety is our priority for Link Transit guests and employees," said Link Transit in the news release.

The bus was one of Link Transit's electric vehicles and was not plugged in or charging at the time of the fire.
