Bicyclist hospitalized after collision with Ocean Shores police vehicle

A bicyclist was hospitalized Friday after failing to yield to an Ocean Shores police vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Danika R. Bills, 23, of Ocean Shores, was transported to a local hospital following the incident. Troopers said she was not wearing a helmet.

According to WSP, Bills was traveling southbound on Ensign Avenue Northwest near Pacific Boulevard Northwest at about 2 p.m. April 24 when she entered the intersection and was struck by a fully-marked 2020 Ford Explorer heading eastbound on Pacific Boulevard Northwest.

Both the bicycle and Explorer came to rest in the intersection.

The driver of the police vehicle, Matthew L. Papac, 39, of Ocean Shores, was uninjured in the collision. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt.

In its incident report, WSP listed the cause of the collision as "fail to yield," and noted that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
