Skagit County to open two Disaster Recovery Centers

The Skagit County Department of Emergency Management will open two Disaster Recovery Centers on Wednesday.

According to a news release, those staffing the centers will be available to help residents affected by the December flooding apply for federal, state and local resources to support recovery efforts.

The centers will be in the Burlington Parks and Recreation building at 900 E. Fairhaven Ave. and at Hamilton Town Hall at 584 Maple St.

Each of the centers will be open for nine days - Wednesday, April 29, through Saturday, May 2, Wednesday, May 6, through Saturday, May 9, and Saturday, June 6.

Weekday hours will be 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday hours 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to the news release, those looking to apply for disaster recovery funds should be prepared to share home, mailing and email addresses; phone number; social security number; and banking and insurance information.

The centers will have representatives from the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, the Small Business Administration, of Office of the Washington State Insurance Commissioner, The Salvation Army, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the state Emergency Management Division, Community Action of Skagit County, and United Way of Skagit County.

On April 11, President Trump approved a major disaster declaration for the December storms.

The declaration releases funds to support individuals and public agencies recovering from the disaster.

Residents can register for individual disaster assistance by visiting disasterassistance.gov or calling 1-800-621-3362. The deadline to register is June 10.

*Dates and hours of operation are the same for both the Hamilton and Burlington DRC locations.
