Wenatchee Valley Fire Department board to select new fire chief

The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department is set to name a new fire chief next week.

The department's board of commissioners will interview three candidates at the Residence Inn on Monday and select the new fire chief at a special board meeting on Tuesday.

Current chief, Brian Brett, has announced he'll retire in December after more than 30 years in the department.

Candidates running for the position include Deputy Chief Andy Davidson, Kristan Maurer from the Clark County Fire District 6 and Jon Perry from the Idaho Falls Fire Department.

In an interview with The World in December, Brett said the board is looking for a candidate who can function in a complex wildland urban interface environment. And lead and manage an organization of the department's size.

"We're in the top 17 fire departments size-wise in the state of Washington," he said. "It's a large, complex organization to run, and they want to make sure they have a fire chief who can be strategic and plan with the necessary positions to support the operations of the fire department."
