Saturday's Prep Roundup: Burlington-Edison's Forthun sharp in track and field meet
LAKE STEVENS - Burlington-Edison High School's Evan Forthun had three top-two finishes Saturday at the eight-team Viking Track and Field Classic.
The senior placed first in the boys' 100-meter dash (11.21 seconds), second in the 200 (22.26) and second in the 400 (49.51).
Burlington-Edison's Matthew Benson was second in the boys' discus (137 feet, 9 inches), Dylan Dempsey third in the high jump (6-0), and Elian Hauptman third in the 3,200 (10:14.05).
In the girls' meet, Burlington-Edison's Dagny Sloan was first in the high jump (4-8) and Keziah Brown third in the triple jump (32-6).
Burlington-Edison was third in the girls' 400 relay (52.12).
"We were looking forward to this particular meet all season, knowing that it is loaded with some very competitive 3A and 4A teams and some amazing athletes," Burlington-Edison coach Ryan Wallace said. "I was really impressed with how everyone stepped up and competed against some tough competition."
Bellevue Invitational
BELLEVUE - Anacortes' Dylan Rowell won the title in the boys' 800 in the 21-team meet.
The senior had a time of 1:55.25.
Anacortes' Maverick Ball was second in the 800 (1:55.33), Lucas Roberts second in the high jump (6-2) and Spencer Roberts third in the high jump (6-0).
The Seahawks were first in the 800 relay (1:31.84) and first in 1,600 relay (3:26.51).
Mount Vernon Christian's Seth Russell was second in the boys' long jump (20-9 1/2).
In the girls' meet, Anacortes' Lucy Lemrick was third in the 3,200 (12:05.93) and Teagan Littke second in the high jump (4-10).
Anacortes was third in the girls' 800 relay (1:49.01) and second in the 1,600 relay (4:18.53).
Mount Vernon Christian was third in the girls' 1,600 relay (4:22.79).
Anacortes placed third in the boys' meet and fourth in the girls' meet.
Cashmere Invitational
CASHMERE - La Conner's Faith Jenkins and Nora McCormick posted runner-up finishes in the 16-team meet.
Jenkins was second in the 100 (12.75) and McCormick second in the 100 hurdles (16.12).
McCormick was also third in the 300 hurdles (48.51), while La Conner placed second in the girls' 400 relay (51.86).
In the boys' meet, La Conner's Yandel Rosales-Rojas was second in the long jump (20-5 3/4) and Josh Dowry third in the pole vault (12-0).
Baseball
Sedro-Woolley Cubs 12,
Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 2
MARYSVILLE - The Cubs beat the Tomahawks in a five-inning nonconference game.
Sedro-Woolley's Colby Silvis was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI, and Hunter Schnider 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
The Cubs stole 12 bases.
Cubs pitchers Michael Lloyd and Silvas combined on the mound. Lloyd allowed one run on two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in his four innings of work, Silvis allowed one run on no hits and no walks with one strikeout in his one inning.
Both of the Tomahawks' runs were unearned.
Sedro-Woolley is 9-5.
Quilcene Rangers 15,
La Conner Braves 3
LA CONNER - The Braves fell to the Rangers in a nonleague game.
La Conner is 3-7.
Softball
Burlington-Edison Tigers 15,
Mount Baker Mountaineers 3
DEMING - The Tigers beat the Mountaineers in a five-inning Northwest Conference game.
Burlington-Edison's Vivian Rathjen went 2-for-4 with a first-inning grand slam, a double, two runs scored and seven RBI; Katelyn Billings 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and three RBI; and Peyton Locke 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Tigers pitcher Annalyn Rogers allowed three hits in five innings. She walked two and struck out three.
Burlington-Edison is 7-0 in conference and 9-2 overall.
Sedro-Woolley Cubs 26,
Blaine Borderites 0
SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs beat the Borderites in a five-inning Northwest Conference game.
Sedro-Woolley's BriEllen Kononen reached base in all five of her plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks, three runs scored and five RBI.
Kasandra Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, walk and five RBI, and McKenna Lewellen 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.
Gonzalez and Lewellen handled the Cubs' pitching. Gonzalez struck out six in her two innings of work, and Lewellen pitched three no-hit innings while striking out five.
Sedro-Woolley is 7-0 in conference and 11-2 overall.
