Friday's Prep Roundup: Sedro-Woolley girls' tennis team stays on hot streak

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Sedro-Woolley High School girls' tennis team won its third match of the week Friday, beating Anacortes 6-1.

The Cubs swept singles: Ruby Hudson won 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, Jasmyn Burkhalter 6-1, 6-2, Kylie Horkley 6-0, 6-2, and Junie Thompson won 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Sedro-Woolley had wins from Elise Schuyler and Alexis Sanchez (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), and Cecania Pompeo and Natalia Strech (7-6 (7-4), 6-3).

Anacortes' win came from the doubles team of Carter Bowman and Claire Decker (7-5, 6-3).

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 5,

Oak Harbor Wildcats 2

OAK HARBOR - The Bulldogs beat the Wildcats in a Northwest Conference match.

Mount Vernon swept doubles play. Kathryn LeVasseur and Hazel Long won 6-3, 7-5, Sadie Jones and Leah Engeda 6-1, 6-4, and Diana Herrera-Garcia and Sarah Stewart 6-3, 6-2.

The Bulldogs' singles wins came from Farah Briseno (7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5)) and Harper DeFrancisco (6-1, 6-3).

Anacortes Seahawks 14,

Blaine Borderites 4

BLAINE - The Seahawks beat the Borderites in a Northwest Conference game.

Anacortes' Wes Green was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Colin Bryant 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Anacortes is 7-3 in conference and 10-5 overall.

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 10,

Nooksack Valley Pioneers 0

MOUNT VERNON - The Bulldogs rolled past the Pioneers in a Northwest Conference game.

Mount Vernon pitcher Connor Swanson allowed four hits and no walks in six innings on the mound. He struck out six.

The Bulldogs' Reece Roberts went 4-for-4, Brady Peterson 3-for-3 with a triple, and Camran Leslie 2-for-3.

Mount Vernon had 13 hits and eight walks.

The Bulldogs are 9-0 in conference and 13-1 overall.

Mount Vernon, which is No. 1 in state Class 3A RPI, has won 12 consecutive games.

Burlington-Edison Tigers 8,

Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes 0

BURLINGTON - The Tigers beat the Hurricanes in a nonconference game.

Burlington-Edison pitchers Max Herrgesell and Ethan Schmitz held Mount Vernon Christian to three hits - all singles.

While Herrgesell allowed two hits and two walks over four innings, Schmitz gave up one hit and one walk in three innings.

Herrgesell struck out one and Schmitz six.

Burlington-Edison scored all of its runs in the first three innings.

The Tigers' Wyatt Jacobs went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, Hudson Baker 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI, and Asher Moe 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI.

Mount Vernon Christian pitcher Jacob Kucera allowed one run (unearned) on five hits and a walk in four innings of relief. He struck out two.

Burlington-Edison is 11-4 and Mount Vernon Christian is 10-2.

Softball

La Conner Braves 15,

Muckleshoot Kings 14

LA CONNER - The Braves beat the Kings in a nonleague game.

La Conner is 4-3.
