Fire at Pointe Pest Control building believed human-caused
A fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Pointe Pest Control building in Wenatchee, and first responders believe it was human-caused.
The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 5:02 a.m. at the 1000 block of Crescent Street in Wenatchee and arrived to find a portion of the building exterior in flames, according to Fire Marshal Kurt Blanchard.
He said the fire originated in an area that contained pallets. The fire damaged the exterior north side of the building and broke windows.
The fire also burned a truss space in the interior roof and damaged about a third of the central portion of the building.
"The east end of the building is office space, and was relatively undamaged, and then the west side of the building is the least storage space, and that was relatively undamaged," Blanchard said.
The fire was controlled at 5:25 a.m.
Upon investigation, Blanchard said there was no source of ignition in the area, which led him to believe the fire was likely human-caused.
He added that at the moment, it's unknown whether it was arson.
"I can't make that statement right now, and I, to be honest, I don't know," he said. "I just know that it was human-caused, arson is an intent, and all we know at this time is that it was an exterior fire."
The fire is still under investigation while the fire department searches for links to possible people in the area.
