Emmett Dobbins, 4, watches a train and looks at Brooks and Jackson Bovio's LEGO set during Nick's Bricks in April 2024 at Pybus Public Market LocalTel Event Center. The LEGO set took the brothers four months to build.
In Wenatchee, imagination tends to come in bright plastic bricks, thousands of them snapped together by small hands with big ideas.
Nick's Bricks, the valley's LEGO celebration, returns April 18 with a familiar promise: part playtime, part engineering lab and entirely fueled by creativity.
Hosted by the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center, the free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wenatchee Convention Center, where families can view intricate LEGO displays, take part in building challenges and, if luck holds, head home with bricks of their own.
What started as a tribute by Jayne and Kevin Vitulli to their son Nick has grown into a community tradition where creativity is currency and participants of all ages can be architects for the day.
Expect tables filled with castles, cities and contraptions, along with crafts and games. Attendees will also receive tickets to The Wenatchee Riverfront Railway Co., extending the day's activities beyond the convention hall.
The Vitullis, whose efforts helped shape the event into a staple for local families, will also be honored as grand marshals of this year's Washington State Apple Blossom Festival Youth Parade on April 25, recognition of how one family's act of remembrance helped build something lasting.
For those who prefer to build rather than browse, participants are invited to bring their own LEGO creations, simple or elaborate, and add them to the collective display.
