How did skiers from Washington do in Olympics?
Two skiers from Washington state competed in the Winter Olympics in February.
Alpine skier Katie Hensien is from Redmond and grew up skiing at Crystal Mountain Resort, according to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team.
The University of Denver graduate, who competed in the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, announced her withdrawal from the 2026 Olympic Games on Feb. 4.
“I’m sad to share, that even though I was named to the team, I will no longer be competing in the Olympics this year,” Hensien said in a Feb. 4 Instagram post. “I’m just not back at the level I need to be to compete with the best—yet.”
Winthrop native Novie McCabe also made her second Olympic Games appearance in 2026, competing in cross country skiing.
In February, McCabe placed fifth in the 7.5-kilometer women’s relay, 26th in the 10-kilometer women’s skiathlon and 31st in the 10-kilometer women’s freestyle event, according to Team USA
How did any Washington skaters win medals?
Three speed skaters from Washington state competed in the Winter Olympics in 2026.
Eunice Lee, who previously competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics, began speed skating when her family moved to Tacoma from Korea, according to the US Speedskating team’s website.
In her second Olympics, Lee placed eighth in the women’s 3000-meter relay, according to Team USA.
Corinne Stoddard, a Federal Way native, also made her second Olympic Games appearance in February.
Stoddard won a bronze medal in the women’s 1,500-meter race in February.
She placed eighth in the 2,000-meter relay, 24th in the women’s 1,000-meter race and 31st in the women’s 500-meter relay.
Burlington native Cooper McLeod made his Olympic Games debut as a speed skater in Italy, according to the U.S. Speedskating team.
McLeod placed 19th in the men’s 1,000-meter race and 22nd in the men’s 500-meter race.
Who were Washington natives on US curling team?
The U.S. men’s curling team featured two Washington natives.
Issaquah native Ben Richardson, an Issaquah native, and Luc Violette, a Granite Falls native and University of Washington alumni, made their debuts at the Olympic Games in February.
Team USA finished in fifth place at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a 4-5 record, narrowly missing the medal round.
