Best haunted houses in Washington state? These 2 attractions made national lists

How do you celebrate spooky season?

You might enjoy handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, perfecting your costume, watching a scary movie — or testing your nerve at a haunted house.

Fortunately, Washington state has two of the best haunts in the nation.

That’s according to recent rankings by the Haunted Attraction Association and Hauntworld.

Here’s which Evergreen State attractions made the list:

Where are the best haunted houses in Washington state?

The Haunted Attraction Association singled out 67 haunted attractions as 2025’s Top Haunts — relegating each to separate tiers based on how long they’ve operated and how many guests they welcome each year.

The nation’s best haunted attractions “showcase the strength and creativity of the haunted attraction industry across all sizes and markets,” Brett Molitor, the association’s Top Haunts director, said in a Sept. 26 news release.

The 2025 Top Haunts list included three attractions in the Pacific Northwest, including Scaregrounds in Portland, Oregon, and Nightmares on the Rogue in Medford, Oregon.

Only one haunted house in Washington state made the list: Cinema of Horrors Haunted House in Kelso.

Why is Kelso’s Cinema of Horrors a top-rated haunted attraction?

The Haunted Attraction Association recognized Kelso’s Cinema of Horrors Haunted House as one of its Gold Haunts — haunts that have been operating more than 5 years with 5,000-plus annual guests.

The Cowlitz County haunted house features four haunts with immersive sets, live actors and realistic props, according to the Cinema of Horrors Haunted House website.

This year, the haunts are Pumpkin Manor: Realm of the Gourd, Ripper Asylum: Sanity’s End, Cursed Cove: Creatures of the Deep and Funhouse Mania 3D.

“From the moment you enter, you’ll face movie-quality horror brought to life with unmatched detail, special effects and live performances,” organizers said on the Cinema of Horrors website.

With just one ticket, you get the full scare experience at all four haunts at 1301 Grade Street in Kelso, just 30 minutes from Vancouver and 45 minutes from Portland.

Cinema of Horrors Haunted House opened in late September and comes to a close on Saturday, Nov. 1. You can get your scare on from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Tickets starting at $27.51. All are welcome, but the haunt is recommended for ages 13 and up.

Like all the attractions on the Haunted Attraction Association list, Cinema of Horrors is an active association member and has completed safety programs, maintained a documented emergency plan and been “registered and inspected by state and local authorities,” the group said.

How scary is Seattle’s Georgetown Morgue haunt?

Hauntworld, which maintains a database of the “biggest, scariest and most fun attractions in North America,” released its ranking of the 13 scariest haunted houses in America in 2025.

The only Pacific Northwest location on the list was Seattle’s Georgetown Morgue Haunted Attraction.

The haunted house is located in a former morgue at 5000 East Marginal Way South in Seattle.

Organizers call it a “facility for tragic stories of death.”

The Georgetown Morgue haunt uses the history of the Seattle morgue as its basis, adding in scary characters and storylines for the ultimate haunt experience.

Hauntworld praised the Georgetown Morgue’s “intense scares,” professional special effects and immersive atmosphere, calling it Seattle’s premier haunted attraction.

“Each bloodstained hallway and nightmarish scene drags you deeper into a world of horror that blurs the line between fiction and fear,” Hauntworld said in an Aug. 30 news release.

The haunt also has a dark maze experience, a sensory-depriving nightmare for brave attendees.

The Georgetown Morgue is open 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday before closing for the season.

Tickets start at $37. Attendance is not recommended for children under 12, according to organizers.
