Residents called 911 from inside a locked room as an accused burglar broke into their home in Washington, police said.

A man threw a rock through a window and is accused of breaking into the garage at about 8:45 p.m. on Friday, July 14, in Redmond, police said in a news release.

The homeowners hid in a locked upstairs room and called for help while the man loaded their belongings into their vehicle, Redmond Police said.

When police got to the home, they saw a man matching the description running from the garage with an ax into a “heavily wooded area,” police said.

He did not drop the ax and was “argumentative and non-compliant,” police said.

Eventually he let go of the ax and police arrested him on multiple charges, including residential burglary, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, making or having burglary tools, weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm, and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Redmond is about 15 miles northeast of Seattle.
