Curtis guard Zoom Diallo named Washington boys basketball Gatorade Player of the Year
Curtis High School guard Zoom Diallo has added another accolade following another impressive run with the Vikings this winter — he is the state’s boys basketball Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
Diallo, a five-star recruit, has paced the Vikings to back-to-back Class 4A state championships the past two seasons.
He was also named the 4A state tournament MVP for a second consecutive season after scoring a game-high 21 points in Curtis’ championship game win over league rival Olympia earlier this month in the Tacoma Dome.
In leading the Vikings to a 28-3 record, 4A South Puget Sound League tournament title, 4A West Central/Southwest district title and the fourth state championship in program history this season, the 6-foot-5 junior averaged 20.2 points, 5.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
He also earned 4A SPSL North MVP honors for a second consecutive season this winter, is a two-time TNT All-Area selection, and has piled up 1,405 points in his three years with the Vikings.
Diallo is the consensus top recruit in Washington in the 2024 class, is considered the No. 9 player in the nation in the junior class by 247Sports.com, and is listed on the 2024 ESPN60 at No. 36.
He has reported Division I offers from 18 schools, and announced his top six — Arizona, Gonzaga, Florida State, Kansas, USC and Washington — in January.
Arlington senior Jenna Villa, a Washington State signee, was named the state’s girls basketball Gatorade Player of the Year this winter after leading the Eagles to a fifth-place finish in 3A and earning all-tournament first-team honors.
Villa also won a pair of third-place trophies at the state tournament with Arlington in 2020 and 2022, and paced the Eagles to three consecutive district championships.
The 6-foot-2 senior guard is a two-time 3A/2A Wesco player of the year.
Villa averaged 22.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.2 assists her final season at Arlington.
