This Bellingham restaurant is sending care packages to Ukraine. Here’s how to help

Magdalena’s Bistro and Creperie has been asking its Facebook community to help those in Ukraine by supporting organizations they are familiar with, and donating items to the restaurant to send to those in need.

Magdalena’s first started posting about their support to the Ukrainian people on Feb. 25, as its Ukrainian restaurant manager wanted to thank customers for their kind words and support.

The restaurant then posted about a Facebook page that helps those trying to get out of Ukraine to safety find ways of escape.

Magdalena’s also shared a page for the Polish Red Cross that is in need of donations in order to help families and Ukrainian refugees at the border.

But Magdalena’s support went further than just posting about ways to help Ukraine. On March 2, community members could drop off donations at Magdalena’s that would be sent to Ukraine. Items such as first aid items, diapers, canned goods and more were requested in order to help those in need.

The response was significant, as two truck fulls of donations are headed to Seattle Thursday, March 3, to fly to Ukraine.

“Bellingham your response was amazing. Two full trucks will go Seattle tomorrow morning and fly to Ukraine! We are so thankful and touched. I will post more soon we would like to repeat next week,” Magdalena’s management posted on the Facebook page.
