A Washington beach ranked among the best in the country.

Ruby Beach in the Olympic National Park landed a top spot on Tripadvisor’s 2022 “Best of the Best Beaches” in the United States.

The top 10 beaches were selected “based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings” from Tripadvisor users between Jan. 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021.

And Tripadvisor didn’t just look at warm sandy beaches.

“We know a perfect day at the beach looks different from one person to the next. Some love classic soft white sand and sunbathing, while others love exploring rocky coves,” Tripadvisor Vice President of Global Media Business Christine Maguire said in a Feb. 23 news release.

At No. 7, Ruby Beach isn’t like a tropical beach in Hawaii or warm like the coastlines in Southern California.

It’s rocky, covered in pebbles and has towering sea stacks.

But “the scenery is unreal,” one reviewer said.

Many reviewers recommend going on a sunny day and at low tide to spot starfish and other sea creatures.

What an absolutely stunning beach! Rock formations, driftwood, smooth stones, tide pools ... a photographer’s dream,” another reviewer said.

“As spoiled and as jaded as we coastal Californians were, we could not believe our eyes when we witnessed and experienced the majesty of this pristine and rugged beach,” one reviewer wrote.

Reviewers also suggest bringing a jacket and staying out of the “brutally cold” water.

Ruby Beach is about 125 miles northwest of Olympia.

Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area in Puako, Hawaii, ranked No. 1 on Tripadvisor’s 2022 “Best of the Best Beaches” list.
