If you love wine, this video of a semi cruising in Washington may be hard to watch

Washington state has become the U.S.’s second largest premium wine maker, with an annual production of about 17.7 million cases of wine, according to Washington State Wine’s website.

It looks like some of it ended up all over one lane of North Highway 405 near Renton in videos posted on Facebook.

“This was North 405 on the Renton curve this morning,” Kyle Westby wrote in a Facebook post created on Sept. 29. “Smelled like wine.”

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, who works as a public information officer for the King County area, confirmed that it was old wine spilling from the truck. He was not aware of the incident at the time, likely because it wasn’t causing any serious traffic hazard, Johnson told McClatchy.

The red liquid was spilling in huge amounts from an unmarked semi truck, the videos show. Westby said in a response to a comment on his post that he guessed it wouldn’t be from broken bottles, but some other container since the amount spilled was so vast.

“That part of 405 is always bad, speed up slam on the brakes,” Westby wrote. “I don’t think it was a bunch of bottles, had to be a big barrel or some kind of container to be spilling that much.”

“Wine is being wasted,” one commenter lamented on the post.

Another commenter guessed that “Somebody [is] not going to be happy with [their] load.”

Johnson wanted to remind travelers that any load driven on Washington highways needs to be secured.

“No matter what it is, you’re required to secure your load, whether it be old wine or dirt,” Johnson said.

Washington mostly produces red wine, Washington State Wine says. Fifty-nine percent of Washington’s wine is red, while 41% is white.
