1 Benton County race remains tied after ballot count
After counting all the Benton County ballots, one race remains tied.
Republicans Beth Carothers and James Breed are deadlocked for the office of precinct committee officer for Precinct 6140, said the county elections office.
A manual recount is required by law and is expected to take about a day. The recount is to begin Aug. 22 at the Benton County Courthouse in Prosser.
The county’s canvassing board is tentatively scheduled to review the recount and certify the results on Aug. 23. If the tie remains, a coin flip will decide the winner.
Anyone interested in observing the certification process is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact the election department at 509-736-3085.
