Name: Charles Lyall

District: South Columbia Basin Irrigation District, Division 1

Why are you running?

I feel it’s an honor and a privilege to serve the landowners of Division 1 of South Columbia Basin Irrigation District. Division 1 is massive, running from block 11 in the east to block 26 in the west with blocks, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 201, 253, 801, 802, 803, and 880 in between. We grow many different grains, vegetables and fruits, and raise livestock. Irrigation is the life blood of the basin, and water is our most precious resource. The issues we face at SCBID are challenging and complex. I believe it is vital that going forward we have the best representation possible. Again it’s an honor and a privilege to serve Division 1.

What is your experience?

Grew up on a farm, first job rill irrigating, graduated Grandview 1977, started farming full-time 1978, started in block 26, 1980 (broke it out of sage), married 1986, Thea Bronkhorst, 2 boys, 1 girl, 19 to 26 years old, Ag-Forestry grad, class 20, 3 terms SCBID board.

If elected, what changes would you plan to make?

My number one goal has been and will be to improve communication between me, staff and the landowners.

Other goals:

1. Steadily improve aquatic weed control.

2. Improve employee relations.

3. Strategic planning.

4. Implement new technology.

5. Repair aging infrastructure.

6. If profitable, push forward with small hydro and north dam.

As always the mission is to provide the landowners with efficient, reliable water deliveries at an affordable rate.
