Benton Fire District 6 levy passing with 2 votes

A property tax levy for Benton Fire District 6 in Paterson was narrowly passing by two votes Tuesday night.

The measure collected 52 votes in favor, or 51 percent, to 50 votes against, or 49 percent.

The Benton Fire District 6 proposition would set the property tax levy at $1.27 per $1,000 of assessed property value, to be collected in 2016. It would mean the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $127 a year.

The levy would pay for improved fire protection operations, replace apparatus and equipment, provide staffing and increase emergency medical service levels.
